Looking for a builder

Schutt Log Homes does not recommend specific builders. We do, however, have some suggestions for where to look for builders or contractors and what you should look for when hiring a builder. Our building manual is created in a way to make the building process as simple as possible. Weather a weekend warrior or a professional contractor the manual will guide the builder through the process. We have simplified the process and illustrated each step. For example, the step before stacking the logs is chamfering. This is a page from the manual explaining the process of chamfering. Another part of the building process we get a several questions about is how to adjust for the logs expanding and contracting. This is easily accounted for in our manual. As you can see from the above examples our construction manual addresses all aspects of building our kits in an easy to understand format. Of course Schutt Log Homes is always available for technical support.
A few important things to consider when looking for a builder: Can you communicate with them? Are you on the same page? Do you like them? If your personalities clash now it will only get worse through the building process. Are they experienced with your local codes and building requirements? Look at recent work they have done. Be detail oriented and make sure your builder is detail oriented. Look at the workmanship. Get references from past customers. If they were not happy you will not be happy. Check them out on Facebook and google. Make sure they have good reviews.
